When thinking about what kind of cocktail to feature for the November edition of Thirsty Thursday, I was definitely thinking about the holidays coming up. Most of the cocktails I’ve featured on this blog are definitely on the booze-forward side. Translation: They’re strong. It’s how I like ’em, and I think if we’re looking for balanced cocktails that aren’t overly sweet, it’s just the way to go.
But with Thanksgiving and the December holidays coming up, I wanted to create a cocktail recipe that was fun and festive without being quite so strong… In other words, something you can serve your guests and not get them all completely drunk before dinner.

This recipe is extremely simple to make a virgin version of as well; just swap out the sparkling wine for sparkling water. You can add some good quality ginger ale if you’d like, too.
Pomegranate Pear Punch
prep time: 5 minutes serves: 6-10
4 cups / 32 ounces pomegranate juice
2 cups / 16 ounces pear juice
1 bottle dry sparkling wine
1 lemon, sliced
1 mandarin, sliced
small handful fresh cranberries, sliced
1-2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds for garnish, optional
- In a punch bowl or large glass bowl, stir together the pomegranate and pear juices.
- Slowly pour in the sparkling wine and gently stir.
- Garnish with the sliced lemon, mandarin, cranberries and pomegranate seeds. Serve over ice. (You can add ice to the punch bowl as well, but might want to use a larger block so it doesn’t dilute the punch.)
