It’s been a heartbreaking week for the Bay Area. The wildfires that began last Sunday night are the most devastating in our state’s history; and everyone in the area has either been directly affected or knows someone who has. Entire neighborhoods are gone, over 6,700 structures so far. At least 41 lives have been lost.
Literally everyone I know is looking for a way to help. There has been an unbelievable outpouring of love, food, support, money, you name it; all in an effort of help those who are living through this hell.
We’re all doing what we can. And since feeding people is one of the things I’m pretty good at, I’m partnering up with Establish to bring community together for an open house style benefit. We’ll be serving up tacos, snacks, and drinks, and sending all of the proceeds up north to help with the efforts. Although I wish it were under happier circumstances, I really hope to see you there!
Speaking of community, we wouldn’t be able to do this without help, and the generosity we’ve experienced has been nothing short of incredible. This year has been tough on me (and everyone I know) and the reaction to this tragedy has restored my faith in humanity a lot. People can be pretty freaking awesome.
Huge thanks to: Nana Joes Granola, Bread SRSLY, Revive Kombucha, The Pizza Place on Noriega, Juice Shop, Flanahan’s, Hard Frescos, Teresa’s Gourmet Foods, Noriega Produce, and of course Establish for hosting!
- We have found what we believe to be the best recipient of our dollars: Undocufund, which provides direct assistance to undocumented workers affected by the fires. This population isn’t eligible for most other aid that’s available, and there is no industry in wine country without them.
- We have encountered so much generosity amongst this community that we are able to pull this little shindig off at zero cost. So 100% of the money raised will go to those who need it.
